Legal Clinics
The Housing Justice Project by Skagit Legal Aid provides the following services:
Represents eligible tenants in unlawful detainer (eviction) cases under the Washington Right to Counsel Law in Skagit County, San Juan County, Island County, and Whatcom County Superior Courts
Advises and represents tenants to prevent evictions for nonpayment of rent or any other cause based reasons;
Negotiates with landlords to avoid eviction or to enforce the rights of tenants;
Advises and represents tenants who have been wrongfully evicted by landlords;
Assists tenants submit eviction prevention applications for rent assistance, relocation, or other supportive services.
Who we serve: Low-income residential tenants residing in Skagit, San Juan, Island, and Whatcom Counties.
When: You can contact us anytime. We will respond as soon as possible within normal business hours which are 9am -5pm, Monday - Friday.
Where: We host monthly legal clinics in Skagit, Whatcom, and San Juan Counties, respectively, and screen tenants during the weekly civil motion calendar at the Skagit County Superior Court.
Burlington Library - Every 1st Wednesday from 5:00pm-7:00pm
Lynden Library - Every 2nd Wednesday from 5:00pm - 7:00pm
Joyce L. Sobel Family Resource Center in Friday Harbor - Every 3rd Wednesday from 2:30pm - 5:30pm
Skagit County Superior Courthouse - Every Friday at 9:30am
